Sondheim at his best in this hilarious musical romp throough Ancient Rome.
Inspired by the farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus (251-183 BC)
it tells the bawdy story of a slave named
Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by
helping his young master woo the girl next door.
It's a farce so there's a set with many doors, dreadful puns, cases of mistaken identity
(frequently involving characters disguising themselves as one another),
and satirical comments on social class.
It's a musical so there's some great witty numbers like "Comedy Tonight", "The House of Marcus Lycus,
"Everybody Ought to Have a Maid" and "I'm Calm"
Directed by Keith Pendall who's recent successes include Little
Shop of Horrors, a production which won
a NODA award for Best Musical of 2007 in the eastern region.
