Following the huge success of "Life is a Cabaret" our autumn show is the amazing Oh What a Lovely War !, Joan Littlewood's biting satire on the stupidity of war in general and the First World War in particular. Featuring songs of the period, though often with the lyrics changed to express the ghastly humour of the combatants, Oh What a Lovely War is set as a typical end-of-pier show of the time, complete with pierrots and music hall singers. At times hilarious, at others deeply moving we watch as the heady optimism of the early days of war ("we'll be home by Christmas") descends into the tragedy of the trenches. We see this through the eyes of the Home Front, the Generals and the soldiers, British, Irish, French and German.

Timed to co-incide with the 70th anniversary of the start of WWII this is a not-to-be-missed chance to see this superb show.

Some of the songs include -

"Roses of Picardy"

"Belgium put the kaibosh on the Kaiser"

"Goodbye-ee"

"Oh, it's a lovely war"

"Hush, here comes a whizzbang"

"The bells of hell"

"Keep the home fires burning."

"And when they ask us"
